Brandon Straka

#WalkAway Founder and J6 Political Prisoner

THURSDAY, AUGUST 7

AUGUST DINNER & SPEAKER SERIES

Brandon Straka is a former liberal and celebrated grassroots activist who launched the viral #WalkAway Campaign in 2018 after publicly sharing his decision to leave the Democratic Party. His heartfelt video resonated with millions of Americans who felt alienated by the growing intolerance, identity politics, and censorship within the political left. What began as a single testimony quickly became a national movement—uniting former Democrats, independents, and disillusioned citizens from all walks of life to boldly “walk away” from political divisiveness and reclaim their voice.

Straka has inspired thousands through his powerful storytelling, media appearances, and live rallies across the country. His mission has always been grounded in empathy, truth, and individual empowerment. “The truth doesn’t require your belief to exist—but your courage to defend it makes all the difference,” he says, capturing the spirit of a movement that continues to shake the political status quo.

In the aftermath of the January 6th Capitol protest, Straka was arrested and later sentenced for his role, despite never entering the Capitol or engaging in violence. He received a sentence of three months home confinement, three years probation, and a $5,000 fine. The case made national headlines and exposed the extreme double standards in political prosecutions. Throughout the ordeal, Straka remained unbroken—and emerged even more committed to defending constitutional rights and peaceful dissent.

Since his sentencing, Brandon has redoubled his efforts to defend free speech and fight political persecution. He continues to lead the #WalkAway Foundation, host public events and town halls, and give voice to those silenced by fear or censorship. His resilience, authenticity, and defiance in the face of injustice have made him one of the most courageous and compelling figures in American activism today.
